In conversation with: Woodbird
(Interview in Englisch)
Hi Mathias! Tell me something about yourself and the brand.
My name is Mathias, and I'm the brand manager of Woodbird. The brand was established in 2010 and comes from a really cool store in Denmark, called Munk Store.
One of the founders, Chung, who’s also the CEO today, has his roots in Denmark as well as in Hong Kong. So, you always find a lot of inspiration from Hong Kong or Asian streetwear culture merged together with the Scandinavian.

"…we want to build a collection with our own heritage and our own storytelling."
How has your brand evolved since its founding?
In the beginning we were very clean; we only did sweats and t-shirts and a few pants. But over the years, we have developed more into the classier streetwear brand. Our denim program is one of our biggest and most important parts at the moment.
We really focus on developing denim with high quality fabrics, sourced from a mill in Turkey, where we normally use 100% cotton because we can get the most authentic washes out of.

How did you come up with the color palette for this collection?
The way we are building up collections and choose colorways as well is of course something that starts in the design team. They find inspiration in a lot of places around in Europe but also in Asia. And that’s because we want to build a collection with our own heritage and our own storytelling.
How would you describe the partnership between Street-Files and Woodbird?
I think you started working together with our former agent in Germany and over the years the relationship was getting closer. What’s been nice, especially from our side, is that Street-Files really believed in us from the start on.
They always have an open mind for all the new things we are doing. And since the last 8 to 10 months, we are working even closer, and they have become an important part of our family and I'm really proud to collaborate with them.

Do you have any memorable moments with Street-Files?
I think it was at Seek a couple of years ago. I met Alex a few times, but this time we were in the same queue for lunch, and we had a really good chat. Talking about life, development of our brand and developments of Street-Files.
I think, we talked for more or less one and a half hours, took a coffee afterwards and had a look into the collection. I think that’s where my relationship with Street-Files really started. Of course, we are in for the business, but in the end it’s about a good relationship. Because a good collaboration results in an even better business for both.
Thank you very much.
